Talking Menopause & Other Skin Suggestions

Menopause can start at any time after 40 however, early menopause can start earlier.

I have several clients who are experiencing this. Usually, menopause begins between the ages of 40 and 45 years depending on health. Some will have had a hysterectomy or other surgeries or illnesses that can affect your hormone production. Examples include tubal ligation, hysterectomy and some cancer surgeries. Around 12% of women may have their final period before 45 but that is a small percentage.

How Does Menopause Affect Our Skin?

Our skin shows that we are in menopause. It looks and feels drier and thinner. Tone changes and blemishes such as age spots and broken capillaries appear, and pores enlarge. Sadly, our skin loosens as the collagen diminishes causing skin laxity. Hair will change too. Changes include thinner hair on the scalp, bikini line and eyebrows but more hair on places you’d rather not have hair like those random ones on the chin!

Menopause is recognised in the changes of your skin. We lose fat on our face as the fat pads in our cheeks separate and reduce causing hollows around the eyes. As the skin is thinner, it stretches with the weight of body weight and our body shape alters to accommodate that.

Hormone loss and changes cause lines, wrinkles and folds.

Looking after your skin during and after menopause is vital.

We all have our routines but many of us don’t change them as we experience growing older.

It’s important to understand that your skin will get drier and thinner and it will be more vulnerable to the elements and our diets. Choosing treatments, skin care products and diets are important.

You should change cleansers, moisturisers and even make up should be more moisturising than before. However bear in mind that most topical skin care won’t reverse the clock.

Luckily there is a plethora of wonderful anti-ageing products available such as:

Skin Boosters:- we use Profhilo®. It is a revolutionary 'beneath the skin' hyaluronic acid moisturising treatment. It is unique hyaluronic acid injectable gel, which has a prolonged stimulating activity on the dermal cells. When injected into skin, Profhilo® stimulates the skin cell receptors to counteract skin laxity and improve and restore firmness of the skin.

One of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market, Profhilo® not only boosts and hydrates the skin, but also remodels ageing and sagging tissue. The most common areas of treatment include the face and neck and can also be used for the décolletage, hands, arms, knees and abdomen area where it would effectively treat skin laxity. The treatment is suitable for men and women as well as offering skin benefits for patients of all ages.

LUMI Eyes: is a high-quality injection product based on polynucleotides that repair damage to the dermis with tissue regenerating material. This mesotherapy treatment ruthlessly destroys dark circles under the eyes, moisturises the skin and fights fine wrinkles. The results are smoothing and lifting the skin under the eyes so tear troughs are smoother.

Dermaceuticals:- These products are used in combination with micro needling facials but clients can buy the home kits with or without their own microneedling pen.

We use 6 steps: Cleansing, Serums, Correcting, Moisturising and recovery. Followed with a specific mask.

Dermaceuticals are developed to help strengthen, nurture and nourish the skin before, during and after. These products are infused into the skin allowing deeper delivery for better results.

They allow us to treat the skin for:

· Line lines and wrinkles

· Acne

· Scars

· Skin tightening on face, neck and body

· Stretch marks

· Pigmentation

· Enlarged pores

· Hair loss

These products have the best vitamins, minerals, botanicals. Organic ingredients meeting modern skincare science to deliver younger looking, plumper and smoother skin.

The products are hypoallergenic and GMP approved standards. Firmly opposed to testing products on animals.

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound:- HIFU is used to cause micro damage to the ‘fascia’ that helps the skin adhere to the muscle. The ‘damage’ causes the fascia to tighten dramatically and renew collagen and elastin. This ensures that the skin tightens and lifts as it re-adheres to the under lying muscle.

We use this treatment for our non-surgical face and neck lifts as well as to lift and tighten skin on the body.

If you’d like to learn more about these treatments you can book a free consultation on the website.
